Polytheism is the belief in and worship of multiple deities, called gods and goddesses. These are usually assembled into a pantheon, along with their own mythologies and rituals. Many religions, both historical and contemporary, have a belief in polytheism, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Shinto, Ancient Greek Polytheism, Roman Polytheism, Germanic Polytheism, Slavic polytheism, Chinese folk religion, Neopagan faiths and Anglo-Saxon paganism.

Polytheists do not always worship all the gods equally, but can be monolatrists, specialising in the worship of one particular deity. Other polytheists can be kathenotheists, worshiping different deities at different times.

Polytheism is a type of theism (belief in one or more gods), but contrasts with monotheism (belief in a singular god), which is the dominant belief in the world today. In certain religions, such as Hinduism and Wicca, the various deities seen as emanations of a greater Godhead.

A. Transtheists don't believe their gods truly and actually exist outside of the human mind. They're more concerned with the ''transcendent'' qualities those gods portray, thus the term. If I had to label him anything, I would say that Aristotle was a transtheist (or a transtheistic polytheist, more specifically). Polytheists believe in more than one god, and may or may not be transtheistic.

How can Jesus and God the father have two wills unless the Trinity is Polytheism ?
Q. One entity (Monotheism) cannot have two wills. Two seperate entities (polytheism) can have two wills. Jesus and God have two seperate entities as we all know from the famous Bible verse. Matthew 26:39 "And going a little way forward, he fell upon his face, praying and saying: My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me. Yet, not as I will, but as you will. .

A. There is a thoery that holds God is not bound by human logic. Its hard to argue whether or not this is true, since we can't understand things except by using logic, but it also makes a kind of sense. If God is supposed to be omnipotent and omniscient, it makes sense that he could do illogical, or to us, counterintuitive things. Interestingly enough, as much as people see Islam as a backwards and corrupt religion, the Qu'ron states that the most perfect thing Allah made was reason, and the things he did were done according to it. Contrast that to the old Christian saw that "God works in mysterious ways." So if God is bound by, or adheres to, reason, he could not have two wills. If he is not, he could do whatever he wants; act by a… [cont.]

  • "It must appear impossible, that theism could, from reasoning, have been the primary religion of human race, and have afterwards, by its corruption, given birth to polytheism and to all the various superstitions of the heathen world. Reason, when obvious, prevents these corruptions: When abstruse, it keeps the principles entirely from the knowledge of the vulgar, who are alone liable to corrupt any principle or opinion."
