Secular Humanism appeals to me, but at the same time I would be reluctant to give up cultural traditions that I believe make life more interesting and pleasant. For example, in my father's Pennsylvania Dutch culture it is believed that it is good luck to eat pork on New Year's Day. Secular humanism is a philosophy. Due to it's rejection of spiritual and supernatural-based morals, lots of atheists are attracted to it. However, it is not necessary to be an atheist in order to be a secular humanist. The only similarity would be the above-mentioned rejection of unchangeable religious morals, and the emphasis on proof over faith. I don't call myself a secular humanist but I certainly agree with its focus on ethics and building a better world.
