Marijuana Anonymous is a Twelve-step program for people with common desire to maintain abstinence from marijuana. HistoryMarijuana Anonymous (MA) formed in June 1989 to address to specific needs of Marijuana Addiction. Since inception, MA has followed the Twelve Traditions and suggests practicing the Twelve Steps, which both originated from AA. Among the founders at the first MA conference in Morro Bay were delegates from Marijuana Smokers Anonymous (Orange County, California), Marijuana Addicts Anonymous (the San Francisco Bay area), and Marijuana Anonymous (Los Angeles County). Other existing fellowships from Seattle and New York enfolded into MA later. As stated on their website [Marijuana Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from marijuana addiction. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using marijuana. There are no dues or fees for membership. It is self-supporting through contributions. MA is not affiliated with any religious or secular institution or organization and has no opinion on any outside controversies or causes. Their primary purpose is to stay free of marijuana and to help the marijuana addict who still suffers achieve the same freedom. Members practice the suggested twelve steps of recovery and by being guided as a group by twelve traditions. Marijuana Anonymous uses the basic 12 Steps of Recovery founded by Alcoholics Anonymous]. MeetingsMeetings are a vital part of the MA program. This is where fellowship members go for support, for literature, and mark and celebrate their abstinence from marijuana. Q. bedises the fact that the government will tax the hell out of it-- it seems that alcohol is just as widely abused and causes people to do things they wouldn't normally do. although, I don't believe a person should drive under the influence of ANY drug, you never hear of people being killed by stoned drivers. Or people causing fights because they were stoned. Any groups like MA (marijuana anonymous)?? What is the crime/accident rate in Amsterdam? I wonder if the government ever looked at Amsterdam at all. Frankly, I dont have a problem with it (with an age limit on it, high schoolers dont need to be smoking weed), but if an adult wants to , why shouldnt they be able to? I don't smoke marijuana, so I have nothing to gain from it being legal, but adults should be able to choose for themselves whether or not they want to smoke weed. If cigarettes and alcohol are legal, why isnt marijuana? I'll tell you why, because it's alot easier to grow your own marijuana than it is to make your own alcohol/cigarettes. The government wouldnt make any money if it were legal, because they cant tax things you grow in your own home. So what do they do? Make it illegal.
