How to close a Narcotics Anonymous Meeting?
Q. We are a relatively new group. We've always closed with the Lord's prayer, but as we get more people from out of the area coming in, we are noticing, this is not how it's done in other Narcotics Anonymous meetings. What are some good prayers to use for closing an NA meeting. I know of the 3rd step prayer, but I was at a meeting once with a chant about the "Circle of Unity"? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

A. I'd suggest talking to those that come from other NA groups and tell you that's not how it's done. See if each say the same and maybe that's how it's most commonly done then. although, If you and a group of others recently formed this NA group and find that the lords prayer works fine for you then I see no reason to change that. Anyone that wants to go to a NA meeting and yours is closest or most accessible for what ever reason certainly shouldn't decide not to go simply because of the way you close your meeting. It should be the content of the meeting that is most important.

How do you celebrate 20 years in Narcotics Anonymous?
Q. My boyfriend will soon be celebrating 20 years clean and sober. He only goes to meetings once or twice a year these days, and seems reluctant to "make a fuss" and pick up a chip, especially in a new place with a new group. (We just moved to a new area.) I am VERY proud of him, and we both know this is a big deal. How can I encourage him? I need ideas about what others who have long-term sobriety have done regarding celebrations, chips, etc. (We've been dating for less than a year, so I'm clueless.) I also need to know how to talk to him about this, and whether / how I could participate. I don't want to push... he needs to do this on his own. But I don't want him to "aw, shucks" over it, either. He's a very sweet, humble… [cont.]

A. 20 yrs. - That is so awesome! This is something that can be looked at from alot of different viewpoints. If he doesn't want to share this with alot of people you have to respect that. After all- he deserves his privacy based on his accomplishment. I would say something simple for your man...like a wonderful dinner and possibly you could use what I am going to do... my husband is 1 month away from 1 yr. of sobriety and I'm making a video tape with clips of pictures- our son playing, him working on a project, our little rented house, our dog, etc. and at the end of 5 min. I will be on the camera looking directly into it and telling him how much I value being a part of his life and what an inspiration he is to me. I'm going to put a little… [cont.]

Do the Narcotics Anonymous key chain colors stand for anything?
Q. I think the color indicates how much time you were clean. Anyone elaborate?
Asked by Chris - Thu Mar 19 16:36:36 2009 - Other - Society & Culture - 1 Answers - Comments
A. They usually do. It may depend on the area you live in. A certain color for 30 days clean, another for 60 days clean, etc. But they usually have the amount of time on them too.

Can minors attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings?
Q. I'm 16 and interested in attending. Is this allowed? Do they contact your parents or school? Do they keep the identity of minors anonymous?
Asked by bonni - Thu May 26 17:19:20 2011 - Law & Ethics - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Everybody is anonymous. That's the whole point of it. If you feel that you need to be there, nobody is going to kick you out or do anything that would discourage you from attending. When I was in grad school I went to a few NA and AA meetings (it was for class, I swear! Not that there's anything wrong with going...) and there were a few guys at some of the meetings who were either in high school or just started college. Everybody there was very respectful and didn't push them to talk or make them feel uncomfortable. I think they were kind of scared s***less by hearing the stories some of the older guys told about what they'd been through.

Why do Narcotics Anonymous meetings trigger me?
Q. I know this is fricking strange, but sometimes at NA meetings I feel triggered, or like I want to use more for some reason... I don't understand why. I know it should be the total opposite. It doesn't triggerm e badly, but just a bit, that isn't normal is it? It does at the same time help in many ways too though and make me want a new life. So I don't know. I don't understnad why this is and if it's normal or if I am just messed?

A. You don't like being told what is right or wrong for you. You have an authority problem and they are "the system" for telling you how to live. I hope you stay clean and I would bring this up at your next meeting I strongly doubt you are the one guy who feels like this.

What happens during a Narcotics Anonymous meeting?
Q. What can I expect?
Asked by Mariposa Traicionera - Wed May 26 11:33:39 2010 - Other - Society & Culture - 3 Answers - Comments
A. People just talk about their problems and issues they are having. Some drug related some just issues they are having. Like they will tell you there. Take what you find helpful and disregard other things. Some people act high and mighty like their way is the only way. Just be open minded and listen to what people say. Because no matter where you are in recovery and problems you are having. Someone there had those problems too and can help you to stay clean. They have these cheesey sayings they say alot. I found those annoying. Go to different meetings some are better than others. And just remember to stay clean. It does get better I promise.

A. Yes, he can (but that doesn't mean he will). Many people work the steps but it does not hit the spot for their underlying issues and is both redundant and misleading. If he is willing, he could take a look at smartrecovery.o rg.

A. Well take a deep breath right now. You have to calm down! Your friend is wrong in telling people that is your buisness to tell not his. But you have to let go of this anger. I know it is hard but this could hinder your progress you need to tell him how you feel now so you can let go of this and move on. Tell him how you feel, and tell him to stop and that he should no better. Do that then i would stay away from him for a while. If you cannot avoid him then keep you distance. I Wish the best for you.

Where I live there are multiple gay/bi oriented health clinics and gay/bi groups, centers, etc., I go to the largest gay/bi oriented health clinic in the world in Boston If you have any similar in Northwest FL (I know, that's a pretty conservative part of FL) go and get referrals from them or maybe they provide groups. Is Tampa too far? There's gotta be stuff available in greater Tampa or even Tallahassee. Google.
