Spirituality can refer to an ultimate or immaterial reality; an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of their being; or the “deepest values and meanings by which people live.” Spiritual practices, including meditation, prayer and contemplation, are intended to develop an individual's inner life; such practices often lead to an experience of connectedness with a larger reality, yielding a more comprehensive self; with other individuals or the human community; with nature or the cosmos; or with the divine realm. Spirituality is often experienced as a source of inspiration or orientation in life. It can encompass belief in immaterial realities or experiences of the immanent or transcendent nature of the world.

How does spirituality help people understand the universe in which we live?
Q. I don t think it does at all; I think spirituality is really just a coping mechanism that people have invented and that is not based on any evidence or rational thought process. Spirituality is the sand in which people stick their heads like ostriches when the truth gets too hard for them to accept. But religious people (especially Catholics for some reason) keep telling me that science and spirituality are two methods of understanding the universe. How can imaginary nonsense help people understand the universe?

A. It won't help you obviously but for those of us who believe it helps a lot. Knowing the creation teaches us about the Creator, and knowing the Creator tells us a lot about His creation. Maybe it is you who have your head stuck in the sand. Think about it.

What is the relation between spirituality and science?
Q. I belive spirituality can be understood by self instropection. Then life's aim turns to be being used for purpose higher than yourself. Infact Darwin's theory of evolution tells us that aim of life is continuation of life as a whole and not that of a single individual. What ever one does which includes self development and struggle of any kind makes me feel the triumph of life and not a mere individual win.

A. there's very little relation really. science is just starting to grow with its openness to different topics.. science is based on evidence and u need lots of it if u want money for research. they're almost complete opposites right now.. and really WHAT IS spirituality i personally think darwin had a lot of spare time to think.. respect to him though.

Why do Atheists visit Religion and Spirituality all the time?
Q. I have seen atheists in religion and spirituality every day. I think they make the christian believers participate in discussions. If they were not there in this site, every one may have to keep silent.

A. No man is an island! Those who want to be alone is either a beast or a God. Every man has got a thought that what he knows is right and what he has is great. This is how all the religions work. Atheism is nothing different from that. If you speak to any communist he will say the Communism is the greatest theory world have ever seen. If you ask a Muslim, who is the greatest man in this world, he will say no doubt, Mohamed (Peace be Upon him) is the greatest person ever had in this earth and heaven. Atheists believe human being should be emancipated from religion, then only then can see the truth of the world. They think that all the religious persons should be at any cost made understood that there is no God and the belief in God… [cont.]

Spirituality concerns itself with matters of the spirit, a concept closely tied to religious belief and faith, a transcendent reality, or one or more deities. Spiritual matters are thus those matters regarding humankind's ultimate nature and meaning, not only as material biological organisms, but as beings with a unique relationship to that which is perceived to be Reality beyond the bodily senses, time and the material world.
