Should homophobic people enter some sort of Twelve Step Program to fight their addiction to ignorance?
Q.

A. No, all they need is a two step program to find a meaningful purpose in life: 1. Take a hammer like this one - 2. Hit their own heads with it, and go "Ping Pong, I am a little Dong". This is a lifetime program, and should be carried out repeatedly without any interruptions.

A. Can't join right now. Too busy looking at questions. --- 1. We admitted we were powerless over questions and that made our lives unmanageable. 2. Came to believe the hamster would return us to sanity. 3. Made a decision to turn our wants and our actions to the keyboard as we are able to type on it. 4. Made a searching and fearless search of the Internet. 5. Admitted to the hamster, ourselves, and anyone who will read the answers, what we are doing. 6. Became willing respond to noise. 7. Insatiably demanded more features. 8. Made a list of all questions we had answered and repeated them to co-workers, friends, family, clerks, cops... 9. Typed a fast response whenever possible, except when to do so would beg the question. 10. Continued to do… [cont.]

Are twelve step programs really effective?
Q. There seems to be so much hype regarding twelve-step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
Asked by annie lk - Mon Aug 20 01:59:36 2007 - Other - Health - 12 Answers - Comments

A. According to researches made by the National Institute of Drug Abuse, participating in complementary 12-step programs increases the individual's chances of staying in a drug treatment program for a longer time. There was also a study that found that the patients who attended more individual and group counseling sessions were found to have significantly lower levels of drug usage during and after treatment than those who had participated less frequently. This does not mean, though, that patients can already forgo going to drug or alcohol treatment programs in favor of just 12-step programs alone.

If someone is metal ill and does illegal drugs. Are there drug rehabs that allow them to stay on their?
Q. prescription drugs? Or are most twelve step programs...cold turkey? I know there are twelve steps programs that want you to be completely clean...even if the drugs are for a mental disorder. I just wasn't sure, if one of you beautiful people had some words of wisdom for a family member that is going through a tough time...which is effecting my family.

A. If he needs the anti psychotics to keep his brain levels stable then I don't think a normal re-hab centre would take him. He may have to be admitted to the psychiatric ward in the hospital. Re-hab centres don't even give out paracetamol for headaches as it is still a drug. Have a great day/night!!! K

A. They are very small people who lack the ability to admit when they are wrong, much like a child with his hand in the cookie jar and denying it. They find it hard to back down because they were so arrogant and self righteous, wearing their flip flop mickey mouse hats and swaggering like Bush. That's ok though. In three days we can raise a middle finger salute to these scum bags. And Barack told me that he has all of Little Richard's records.

Are twelve step programs (like AA) a religon?
Q.
Asked by - Thu Jun 24 19:03:07 2010 - Religion & Spirituality - 4 Answers - Comments

A. Religions are defined by: 1) God or gods 2) ritual 3) sacred words or text 4) hierarchy 5) dogma AA has all five. Several higher courts have examined AA and found it to be at least "religious in nature" and court mandated AA to be a violation of the Establishment Clause. AA is a splinter group of the Christian sect The Oxford Group: However, several basic AA beliefs do not conform to basic Christianity. "Turning our will and our lives over to the care of God" is a rejection of Free Will. And no matter how humbly one asks, in Christianity, one should not expect miracles on demand. Bill W and Dr. Bob dabbled in the occult, practices forbidden by mainstream Christianity. The God of AA does not cure alcoholism, only grants… [cont.]

I'm entering a Co Da twelve step program?
Q. I have realized the results of my actions and the damage I have done to my relationships and to myself. I recognize that my childhood and early adulthood has caused me to create mechanisms to stop pain and gain acceptance and feel loved in dangerous ways and situations and the pattern continues. I need to stop this cycle now and I'm unable to continue to pretend to be in control of myself. I need help reconciling with my past and keeping it from inhibiting me in the future. I want loving, kind relationships with friends and family and romantic interests but my actions have prevented this from happening. I need a change, what can I expect at this first meeting? What has been your experience with this program?
Asked by - Mon Aug 23 11:42:14 2010 - Mental Health - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Twelve step programs are generally good if they are followed correctly. I'd suggest at your first meeting, just go along & listen to the other people there. Don't put pressure on yourself to speak, or as they call it, 'share'. It is an option just to listen & not share anything. Stick around after the meeting though & maybe introduce yourself then and have a more personal conversation with someone. All in all, just take it easy for a l-o-n-g time, get a couple of phone numbers from long time recovering members & take it from there. If something doesn't feel right or you think its wrong, perhaps share this with somebody who's a long time in recovery. Oh aye, forget about the future, start living one day at a time & stay… [cont.]

Why do people think that the 12-Step cult is somehow "Christian"?
Q. Some years ago Martin and Deidre Bobgan wrote 12 Steps To Destruction, a blunt and accurate analysis of the 12 Step movement. This well-researched book angered some and was ignored by others. The authors write, Twelve-Step programs are in essence New Age religions and Archetypical precursors of a one-world religion. They do not hold a common doctrine of God and His creation. [1] You will find that, sure enough, a quick internet search demonstrates how compatible 12 Step groups are with New Age/New Spirituality. Or, really, with anything else. According to pass it on, A.A. cofounder Bill Wilson felt A.A. s usefulness was worldwide, and contained spiritual principles that members of any and every religion could accept, including the Eastern… [cont.]

A. Thanks for posting this. I agree with you that the 12 steps is not christian but opens the door for New age beliefs. I have family members in 12 step programs and although it is good that they are sober but what good is that if they are eternally lost because they are told that their higher power can be anything they want it to be. My dad says that your higher power can be a tree or what ever you want. I always tell him that the tree can't do anything for you. Only the true living God can truly set people free. The 12 steps also puts to much dependence in man or a sponsor. It also shows freedom by works and not faith. You have to keep working it and if you don't you fail. Jesus is the only answer. The Most Excellent Way is a Christian… [cont.]

How many trolls here are either; 1. drop-outs, or 2. should be members, of a twelve step program or treatment?
Q. How unlikely is it, that if many of them are young men, they're: 1. to become abusers of women (or already are) 2. engaging in criminal or other antisocial behaviors 3. currently or should be receiving mental treatment 4. engaging in the mistreatment of animals Is it possible these individuals are only manifesting the symptoms of a deeper maladjusted character? If many of them are adult males, if they haven't already acted out in the manner described above, how much longer before you think they will? What kind of parents could they be (or have had), to have the propensity to behave like this? What kind of destructive messages are they (or will be) giving to young girls as their daughters? What kind of sons are the result of this influence?… [cont.]

A. I think you're probably quite right, Shingoshi, to see their antisocial behaviour here as a symptom of more serious dysfunction... I have come to see YA as a microcosm of world society [obviously very distorted] which, like all societies, has its "malcontents".

Why does the 12-step program have so much religious gobbledygook mixed in?
Q. some of the original Twelve Steps as published by Alcoholics Anonymous: 2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him 5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. 6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character 11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. geez, do people really need this nonsense to get clean?

A. I think what you are referring to is the life process program c by Dr. Stanton Peele. Dr. Peele is a seminal figure in the addiction field. Since the publication of Love and Addiction in 1975, he has been a pioneer in applying addiction beyond the area of drugs and alcohol, social-environmental causes of addiction, harm reduction treatment (nonabstinent improvements for addicts), and self-cure of addiction. He has presented these ideas and data in a series of nine books and over 200 professional and popular articles. His first article on addiction. quick drug rehabilitation for more information.
