Originally proposed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) as a method of recovery from alcoholism, the Twelve Steps were first published in the book, Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered From Alcoholism in 1939. The method was then adapted and became the foundation of other twelve-step programs such as Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Co-Dependents Anonymous and Debtors Anonymous. As summarized by the American Psychological Association, the process involves the following:

From Google News Search: "twelve step program" Why do people think that the 12-Step cult is somehow "Christian"? Q. Some years ago Martin and Deidre Bobgan wrote 12 Steps To Destruction, a blunt and accurate analysis of the 12 Step movement. This well-researched book angered some and was ignored by others. The authors write, Twelve-Step programs are in essence New Age religions and Archetypical precursors of a one-world religion. They do not hold a common doctrine of God and His creation. [1] You will find that, sure enough, a quick internet search demonstrates how compatible 12 Step groups are with New Age/New Spirituality. Or, really, with anything else. According to pass it on, A.A. cofounder Bill Wilson felt A.A. s usefulness was worldwide, and contained spiritual principles that members of any and every religion could accept, including the… [cont.] Asked by David H - Fri Dec 12 12:59:42 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Thanks for posting this. I agree with you that the 12 steps is not christian but opens the door for New age beliefs. I have family members in 12 step programs and although it is good that they are sober but what good is that if they are eternally lost because they are told that their higher power can be anything they want it to be. My dad says that your higher power can be a tree or what ever you want. I always tell him that the tree can't do anything for you. Only the true living God can truly set people free. They are very small people who lack the ability to admit when they are wrong, much like a child with his hand in the cookie jar and denying it. They find it hard to back down because they were so arrogant and self righteous, wearing their flip flop mickey mouse hats and swaggering like Bush. That's ok though. In three days we can raise a middle finger salute to these scum bags. And Barack told me that he has all of Little Richard's records. Q. It's been over 20 years, I did the crime and did my crime on a first offense drug charge, less than 1/2 a gram of cocaine. I paid my fine, I did my probation, and upon my release I got into a Twelve step program and that became my life N/A and AA. I was young and dumb back then, it was for recreational use only and I was set up by my best friend, whose best buddy was an under cover Narc. I was able to get a job that I held for 20 yrs. and bought a home and a car living a normal life. I dont blame anyone but myself, I have grown up alot. I would just like an opportunity to work with the military, Police, Sherriff, CIA, FBI, Law Firm, Forencics, under cover survielance ect..
