In human anatomy, the wrist is variously defined as (1) the carpus or carpal bones, the complex of eight bones forming the proximal skeletal segment of the hand; (2) the wrist joint or radiocarpal joint, the joint between the radius and the carpus; and (3) the anatomical region surrounding the carpus including the distal parts of the bones of the forearm and the proximal parts of the metacarpus or five metacarpal bones and the series of joints between these bones, thus referred to as wrist joints. This region also include the carpal tunnel, the anatomical snuff box, the flexor retinaculum, and the extensor retinaculum. As a consequence of these various definitions, fractures to the carpal bones are referred to as carpal fractures, while fractures such as distal radius fracture are considered fractures to the wrist. GNU Free Documentation License How can I strengthen wrists for gymnastics? Q. I recently started an adult gymnastics class. I used to compete and I thought it would be fun. I'm 38 now (yes, I'm insane)! I'm holding up pretty well but I am finding that when tumbling my wrists are giving me the most difficulty. I would appreciate any ideas on how to strengthen them to avoid injury and have a better gym experience. Thanks. Asked by UCURGYPSY - Sun Jul 2 22:21:09 2006 - - 4 Answers - 2 Comments A. That is so cool that u r still doing gymnastics! When i am that age I want to stil be flipping through the air too! I don't know any specific wrist excercises, but definitely stretch them well before u tumble. Good luck with that! Answered by ksquared=KK - Sat Jul 8 13:26:41 2006 When using fake tan, what is the best way to stop my wrists going patchy? Q. After the first application, it's fine. But after a couple of days my wrists always go patchy even if i moisturise? And if i exfoliate the whole tan rubs off, making it look worse! Asked by Nica - Fri Mar 27 08:55:27 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Moisturise before applying the tan and mix some of the tan with moisturiser before using it, it will spread thinner and more evenly and although you will not get as dark a colour the first time it will look better, One of the reasons for your wrists going patchy may be that you are wearing long sleeved garments and the cuffs are simply rubbing the tan off in places..even a bracelet could be responsible but it is probably sleeves that are doing it.I can not think of any solution for this until the weather warms up enough for you to wear short sleeved garments. Q. I do handstands a lot cause i'm practicing different positions (lol don't go there) is there any way to stop my wrists from aching afterwards like any stretches i could do. Also I think this doesn't have to do with it, but if you drink a lot of milk it makes calcium deposits on you'd wrists.
